Croatia - Istria - Rabac
Istria is a
peninsula on the North of Croatia. Today, it is regarded as the
formost destination in Europe: for excellent sailing amongst more
than 1200 islands scattered along the coast, historical towns and
places, Nature Parks and its amazing and varied produce like
trufles, chesnuts, wild asparagus, olives and olive oils, fresh fish
and meat dishes. The cuisine is based on fresh local produce, often
home-made, influenced down the centuries by Italian, Austrian,
Hungarian and even Turkish dishes.
Rabac lies
on the Eastern coast of the Istrian peninsula, about 45 minutes
drive from the international airport in Pula and about 2.5 hours
from the Zagreb airport and Trieste in Italy.
It is a small
picturesque resort with the population of about 1500. As a former
fishing village, it has been steadly growing since the late 60's to
become a very relaxed, quiet and comfortable holiday resort for
all-year-round holidays and short brakes; for families, groups or
couple alike. The beaches are pebbley and the sea is of the most
translucent clear blue. The area of Itsria is widely refered to as
'the new Tuscany' not least because of the geographical similarity,
but also because of the italian influence in the culture, cuisine
and the local dialect. There is lots to do besides lying on the
beach: try biking, stroll in the surrounding hills, fishing or
diving or take some of the numerous organised trips in Istria and
further afield. Tennis, sailing, and all water sports are available
too.
